Find Your Air Fryer Cooking Time
Choose your food and preferred temperature unit to see a starting cooking-time range. Times are estimates for a preheated air fryer with food arranged in a single layer.
Shake the basket halfway through and check for crispness.
For frozen foods, check the package directions as well as the food’s condition.
Important: These are illustrative starting ranges, not a guarantee of doneness or safety. Air fryer models, food thickness, quantity and starting temperature affect cooking time. Use a food thermometer for meat, poultry, fish and reheated leftovers.
How to Use This Air Fryer Time Calculator
- Select the food you want to cook.
- Choose Celsius or Fahrenheit to match your appliance.
- Preheat your air fryer if recommended by its manufacturer, then spread the food in a single layer.
- Start checking at the lower end of the time range. Turn or shake the food when appropriate.
- For foods that require a minimum internal temperature, check the thickest part with a food thermometer before serving.
Why Air Fryer Cooking Times Vary
Two air fryers set to the same temperature can cook differently. Basket design, airflow, food size, crowding and whether the food is chilled or frozen all affect timing. A thin salmon fillet may cook faster than a thick one, while a full basket of potatoes usually needs more attention than a small portion.
Use the calculator as a planning guide rather than an exact countdown. If food is not ready, continue cooking in short increments and check again.
Air Fryer Food Safety Tips
- Chicken and other poultry: Cook to at least 74°C (165°F) internally.
- Fish: Cook to at least 63°C (145°F), or follow official seafood doneness guidance.
- Cooked leftovers: Reheat to 74°C (165°F).
- Potatoes and vegetables: Check tenderness and desired crispness; avoid overcrowding the basket.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to preheat my air fryer?
Follow your manufacturer’s instructions. Preheating can help some foods cook consistently, but not every model or recipe requires it.
Can I cook two layers at once?
The estimates assume a single layer with room for air to circulate. Overcrowding may increase cooking time and reduce crispness.
Can I rely on cooking time alone for chicken?
No. Chicken must reach a safe internal temperature of 74°C (165°F). Use a food thermometer in the thickest portion.
